Pickering Associates is participating in this year’s Canstruction Competition in Charleston, WV on April 5th. The event, hosted by AIA West Virginia and The Covenant House, collects enough cans each year to stock the local food banks for over 6 months, feeding thousands of families. This year our team is purchasing over 5,000 cans to build our design – a 5′ tall Turbo the Snail- made from cans of hearty pastas, a variety of nutritious vegetables, and protein-packed chilies and beans. Our 360 degree design takes full advantage of our 10′ x 10′ build space, and altogether stands almost 8′ tall. Our structure is composed of a grand total of 5085 cans, weighing in at 4,541.8 lbs.
We are reaching out to businesses and organizations in the community to help us build our structure. You can find out more about our sponsorship program and how to donate here. The competition will be held at the Charleston Civic Center during the West Virginia Home Show. The event is attended by thousands of people, including the general public, press, charity organizations, and the food, design, construction and engineering industries. Sponsorship provides substantial marketing/public relations exposure.
Our team is very excited for this years competition, and we hope that you will join in the fun! You can follow our progress here on the site as well as on our facebook page. Thank you for your continued support of this wonderful cause!
